Hyderabad: Heavy rains in the early hours of the morning caused problems for those their way to work and school. Vehicles had to navigate through waterlogged areas in the peak hours. Traffic jams were witnessed in several areas.
Munawar Pasha, an Uber Driver, said, “I started work at 6.30 in the morning, and there was a lot of traffic at Biodiversity Road and Gachibowli. It took two to three hours for the water to drain, and during the rush hour it was very chaotic.”
A.V. Ranganath, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “We tried to alert citizens once it started raining heavily. We asked them not to leave for their destinations until the water level receded. But since it was a crucial time, there were traffic jams at quite a few places. Normalcy was restored only around 10 am when all the water drained.”
The residents of Balnagar were faced with a muddy mess owing to construction work in the area. Amar S., a resident of Balnagar, said, “There are large potholes in the area. Because of the road work that is going on, there is a lot of mud piled up. It took me 2 hours to drive past that stretch of road in the morning today.”
Motorists had trouble travelling under the Sardar Patel Flyover. They complained that water from the flyover was falling on them. Other areas such as Taj Island, Imliban Bus Stand, Putli Bowli, and Old Gandhi Hospital were also waterlogged.
