Odisha government officials have found alleged disproportionate assets of more than Rs 2 crore from a woman Anganwadi worker of Kendrapara district, whose monthly salary is Rs 6,500, an Indian Express report said.

As per the report, Sourendri Dhal, who had joined as an Anganwadi worker in Balabhadrapur village of Kendrapara back in 2008 with a monthly remuneration of Rs.4,500, has allegedly amassed wealth disproportionate to her known source of income. As of now, her salary is Rs 6500.

Officials, during the search at her office room and paternal house, found documents of 13 plots worth Rs 1.7 crore, a triple storeyed building in Bhubaneswar, a pick-up vehicle, several life insurances policies worth Rs 2.33 crore and three SUVs. The officials found that Dhal, had also started her own factory, which was supplying for consumption to anganwadi centres, the report said further.

Across the country, Anganwadi workers are involved in planning and implementation of the nutrition program of the children in age group of 0 and 6 years and procurement of food materials.

Earlier this month, an inspection in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajaouri found almost half of the of the Anganwadi centers closed in the in the district. It was found that while the centres are closed for almost a year, a monthly salary of Rs 3,600 for an Anganwadi worker and Rs 1,850 for a helper — were being drawn on a regular basis.

At several places, anganwadi centres and schools run by state government were found with the same children registered, indicating that rations were being drawn under both the ICDS and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), sources told the Indian Express.
