Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police will take arrested consultant Manas Ranjan Nayak on a three-day remand from today in connection with the ITER fake placement case.

The police hope to elicit more information on the fake placement case from Manas after interrogating him during the remand period.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said, “Though we had prayed for a five-day remand of the arrested consultant for interrogation, the court granted only a three-day remand. The probe process will be expedited further basing on the information provided by Manas.”

The arrested consultant yesterday stated before media that he had offered ‘complimentary’ support to the ITER College authorities in getting campus selection at the educational institution in return for a job offer at the Siksha O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University.

He further said he had not taken a single paisa for referring the ITER College to different companies and did not play the role of middleman in the entire incident.

Manas was earlier nabbed by a special team Commissionerate Police from Puri on June 2.

SOA University dean of placement RK Hota was arrested on May 26 following allegations that several students of ITER had fallen victims to the fake placements conducted under his supervision.

The arrest was made following a series of protests by students and parents. The students had subsequently launched agitation forcing the authorities to lodge complaint against the consultancy firm which had conducted the fake recruitment drives in ITER for different companies.
