Virat Kohli became the third captain in IPL 2019 to be slapped a fine for his team maintaining a slow over-rate, against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Saturday night (April 13).
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL said in a statement.
Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma and Rajasthan Royals’ Ajinkya Rahane have previously lost the exact amount for their team’s poor run-rate.
Opting to bowl first, RCB completed their bowling innings only by 21:45 IST. However, after six straight losses to begin their season, the visitors picked up their first points in Saturday’s double-header as they successfully chased down a target of 174 to hand the hosts a eight-wicket defeat.
