Rajinikanth will enter politics, says Hindu outfit leader who met superstar

Rajinikanth will enter politics

CHENNAI: Rajinikanth will create an alternative politics in the state by unseating the Dravidian parties from power, said Hindu Makkal Katchi founder and state president Arjun Sampath, after meeting the superstar at his Poes Garden residence on Monday. When reporters asked Rajinikanth about the meeting, the actor said that it was only a courtesy call.

Last month, after Rajinikanth had stated that he will enter politics if it was God’s will, Tamil fringe outfits had lashed out at the 66-year-old actor. Hindu Makkal Katchi then sought extra security for the actor from the state director general of police. In an hour-long interaction with Rajinikanth, Sampath urged him to enter politics soon.

Sampath said, “Tamil Nadu has been suffering under Dravidian rule for the last 50 years. I told Rajinikanth that his service was much required for the people of Tamil Nadu, given the prevailing political situation in the state.”

The Hindu Makkal Katchi leader said only Rajinikanth could tackle corruption in the state. “Rajinikanth said the system is corrupt. We know only he can fix it and bring about an alternative politics. When we asked Rajinikanth to enter politics, he said he is in preparation for the same. He said that he would feel guilty if he ends up not doing anything. He told me that he wants to realise his pet project of interlinking Himalayan and peninsular rivers into one national grid. And that it was possible only if he enters politics,” he added.

Rajinikanth and Sampath also had discussions over spirituality. Sampath said, “Apart from politics, we also talked about Tamil saints like Nayanars and Alvars. We spoke about Swami Sachchidanand Saraswati and Dayanand Saraswati. Rajinikanth is an ardent disciple of Dayanand.” Hindu Makkal Katchi general secretary Rama Ravikumar and youth wing general secretary D Gurumurthy also met the actor.

Sampath said that Rajinikanth will start his own political party. “We will stand by him and help him serve the country,” Sampath said. Rajinikanth has had a steady stream of visitors since his intriguing statements about his possible entry into politics.
